I’m Larry Galpin, the Author of Easy Cooler Care - A Do-It-Yourself Guide to Servicing & Repairing Your Evaporative Cooler. I made a successful career of renovation and repairs of homes, Offices and apartments buildings. I am well versed in all aspects of building repairs in almost all the trades. A true "Jack of All Trades". In California, I held a California General Contractors License for many years under the business name of Done Right Renovations & Repairs.

In retirement, I still wanted to use my vast knowledge to help others. I went to work in the retail home improvement business. I worked in many departments helping people on many & varied projects like designing & building sprinkler and drip irrigation systems, kitchen design and remodeling, and evaporative cooler servicing and repairs (to name only a few). In these areas I both sold product and taught classes on the use of these products and the installation and/or replacement of the parts.

While working on so many varied projects, with my customers, I noticed there was a variety of "how-to books" on every subject except one... "Evaporative Cooler Service & Repairs". There was only very inadequate, at best, small pamphlets that barely touched on what his customers really needed. Customers would ask the same questions year after year; i.e.., "Which pads, which pumps, How to make it work better, how to reduce mineral build-up, etc."

I also saw another “problem”; Everyday customers came to me needing parts and pads for their evaporative (“swamp”) coolers, but all too often, they wouldn't know the size that they needed. This would lead to a game of twenty questions and most of the time I would have to send them back home to measure or to bring in the part. This was time consuming for both of us and embarrassing for them.

To help this problem I developed the Basic Cooler Information page and started handing it out at the store. Then I developed the explanation of how to get the information to fill out the form. This was the foundation and beginning for the book; Easy Cooler Care.

I started to compose a better pamphlet to expand on my Basic Cooler Information, only to find that more information was needed (more photos would be nice, too.) The project grew and grew into the current, 110 page, book Easy Cooler Care, with its large print (for easier to reading while working on the cooler) and it’s, over 250, large photos to better illustrate what I am talking about.
